UN|HUSHED at Home
The political climate around inclusive, medically accurate sexuality education at school is changing and will probably continue to get worse at the federal level over the next four years. (This aim is specifically spelled out in Project 2025 (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24088042-project-2025s-mandate-for-leadership-the-conservative-promise, notable pages include 4, 62, and 226.) And while there are ways to make things better at that national level – to increase access to information at schools – many parents feel they don’t have the option of waiting until later because their kids need the information now.
In response to this, we are preparing a new kind of sexuality education curriculum and associated learning materials for parents or other important adults to work through alongside the child(ren) in their immediate circles. Parents led sex ed is the next critical space where young people will access information. Many parents have been hesitant to provide this kind of education to their children in the past because they have assumed that their children’s school would provide it and they haven’t been sure of their own skillset. As schools are less and less likely to provide the kind of sex education that is effective and informative, UN|HUSHED is stepping in to provide parents with the materials and training they need to ensure their skillsets.
UN|HUSHED is particularly well positioned to do the work of creating progressive, in-home sex ed programming for the coming years. We are excited by new platforms for sex education! We were the first group in the world to speak eloquently about teaching sex ed online at the beginning of the COVID-19 shutdowns and our resulting training program was accessed by educators around the world in English and Spanish (https://www.unhushed.org/educators/store/teaching-sex-ed-online). We have experience creating recommendations and support for crises like COVID-19, but also crises like war, famine, and other forms of government shutdown and unrest (https://ysafe.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/New-Guidance-on_Online-Sexuality-Education-3.pdf). And now UN|HUSHED is ready to make a dramatic and positive impact on the sexual wellbeing of young people in 2025 through parent led sex ed.
We are currently fundraising for this project! We will need $50,000 (USD) to complete this project and begin providing families across the United States with the materials they need to provide sex ed at home. We are applying to and receiving funding from a variety of sources. We would love for you to be among those helping us make a lasting impact on positive change. Please consider donating today.
